Pre-Opti Class

AGES: 5-6
PREREQUISITES: Can comfortably swim with a life jacket

The Pre-Opti class is a fun, hands-on introduction to sailing for young sailors who are not quite ready for Opti Camp. Sailors build confidence through water comfort, basic boat knowledge, and teamwork. The class emphasizes safety, skill-building, and readiness for future independent sailing. This program helps sailors feel confident, capable, and excited to take their next step on the water.


Opti all-day camps

AGES: 7-11
PREREQUISITES: Can comfortably swim with a life jacket

Through games, activities, drills and racing designed for their experience level, these sailors will learn the basics of sailing the Opti. This is a high-energy, engaging, camp where sailors will spend the majority of their time on the water, strengthening their knowledge and skills in the lifelong sport of sailing.


420 All-Day Camp

AGES: 12-17
PREREQUISITES: Can comfortably swim with a life jacket

Through games, activities, drills and racing designed for their experience level, these sailors will learn the basics of sailing the 420. This is a high-energy, engaging, camp where sailors will spend the majority of their time on the water, strengthening their knowledge and skills in the lifelong sport of sailing.


Opti learn-to-race

AGES: 7-12
PREREQUISITES:  Opti All Day Camp or intermediate Opti instruction or equivalent or instructor recommendation

Young sailors with a solid understanding of Optimist sailing are invited to take the next step and start racing! Opti Learn to Race sailors will learn the skills and techniques needed to sail around a race course in a fun and supportive learning environment.


420 learn-to-race

AGES: 12-17
PREREQUISITES:  420 All Day Camp or Intermediate 420 instruction or equivalent or instructor recommendation

Opti race Team

AGES: 7-15
PREREQUISITES:  Opti Learn-to-Race or instructor recommendation

The Opti Race Team is a summer program designed for young sailors who are interested in racing and competing in regattas. Emphasis is on having fun in a competitive atmosphere while building racing skills and preparing for regattas.


420 Race team

Ages: 13 - 18
Prerequisites: 420 Learn-to-race class or instructor recommendation

The 420 Race Team is an intensive summer program designed for sailors who are interested in building racing skills and preparing for regattas. Emphasis is on building off of sailors’ previous racing experience in a competitive atmosphere.


Adult sailing: Beginner

AGES: 18+
PREREQUISITES:  None

Gather your friends! It's never too late to learn how to sail or pick up on where you left off. This class is the perfect way for beginner adult sailors to learn the basics of sailing or continue to advance their skills in a fun, relaxed environment.

Adult sailing: advanced

AGES: 18+
PREREQUISITES: Adult sailing: Beginner or other sailing training

Our brand new advanced Adult sailing class is designed to progress your skills and introduce you to high level sailing skills. Instruction will be on 420 sailboats and other types of boats raced in the White Bear Community.


Fall/Spring Programs

Scholastic sailing

GRADES: 7-12
PREREQUISITES: None

Teams of students from schools all across the Metro are coached out of White Bear Sailing School! The focus of high school sailing is on building competitive sailors and teams who compete at the local, regional, and national levels each year. These teams practice in the spring and fall.

Fall/Spring Opti race team

GRADES: 5-6
PREREQUISITES: None

Allows for younger sailors to become immersed in the racing experience earlier and for (almost) year-round! Along with sailing in the changing temperatures, you practice and hone your skills well into the year to come back better than ever for the summer! These teams practice in the spring and fall.
