COVID-19 Update 3.27.20

Updated information: WBSS Approach to COVID-19
March 27, 2020

Dear White Bear Sailing School sailors and families,

Since I last wrote you, Governor Walz has closed all Minnesota schools until Monday, May 4 due to COVID-19. Our schools have moved to online learning and undoubtedly, everyone is working hard to adjust to this new reality.

Regarding the White Bear Sailing School’s spring high school season, the Interscholastic Sailing Association (ISSA) has canceled all national championships and inter-sectional invitationals (Mallory, Baker, NIT, and Phebe Cockran King), as well as all district championships and qualifiers leading up to those events. All other ISSA-sanctioned high school regattas are canceled through at least May 1.

If we were to start a spring high school sailing season after May 4, it would only include local regattas and it would be very abbreviated. It has been yet to be determined what that might look like. In the meantime, registration has been closed and we will communicate with you again in the coming weeks.

I know this is incredibly disappointing news for all of us, especially our young sailors. Please encourage them to follow White Bear Sailing School on Facebook and Instagram. There are efforts underway to get our sailors together virtually—sailor friends are forever friends, and this will not keep them apart.

Sincerely,

Johnathan Staruck
