High School Sailing

Join a high school racing team! Last season,  teams from White Bear Lake, Mahtomedi, Mounds Park Academy, and Mounds View trained together on White Bear Lake at the WBSS facility.  We are excited to be adding Hill-Murray to our roster this fall.  Some schools have created teams and offer sailing as a letter sport, while other sailors represent their schools individually. Prior sailing or racing experience is encouraged but not required.

Prerequisites: Grade 7-12.  No sailing experience required. Boats provided (Club 420s).

GRADES: 7-12
PRACTICE SCHEDULE: Tue, Wed, Thur 3:30pm-6:30pm
REGATTA SCHEDULE: Sat and occasional Sun, 8am-4pm
DURATION: Approximately eight weeks

The high school program has two seasons: Spring and Fall. The spring season starts at the beginning of April with dry-land training and classroom sessions and continues on the water until the end of May. Fall practices begin in September as soon as school starts and continue each week until end of October.

All practices take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 – 6:30pm at the WBSS Lakeside Pavilion located at the White Bear Yacht Club: 56 Dellwood Ave. Dellwood, MN 55115. (Membership at the yacht club is not required.)  Regattas are held on weekends at White Bear Lake, Bde Maka Ska (formerly Lake Calhoun), Lake Minnetonka and the St. Croix River.  Regional and national regattas are also available for interested sailors.
