The X-Class has been a one of the most popular youth training boat for kids in the Midwest for over 75 years. Typically sailed and raced by boys and girls between the ages of 10-16, the X’s stable design and durability makes it the perfect boat for young sailors looking for an easy transition from the Optimist to the Club 420.
DURATION: Seven weeks
PREREQUISITES: Intermediate Opti
Students will learn all about tactics, tuning, boat speed, tacking, gybing, and big fleet starting techniques. Class fee includes coaching and support at practices as well as three ILYA regattas:
GLSS X-Invitational in Lake Geneva, WI
There will also be local club races held Wednesday nights and Saturdays throughout the summer on White Bear Lake. Students enrolled in the class will not have to pay the WBYC Sailing Division Fee to participate in those races.
NOTE: Students enrolled in our X program must provide their own boat and equipment. Contact the Waterfront Director for information about boats for sale and lift space, or if you are interested in racing X boats but do not have your own boat.
