The White Bear Sailing School Summer Race Team Program is designed to be the next step for youth sailors who are excited and ready to use their foundational sailing skills in a competitive environment! All that’s needed is the desire to learn and grow along with the basic skills in sailing. Boat ownership is not essential–charters are available for families who do not wish to purchase their own boat.
Participation in the Summer Race Team Program is open to any youth sailor with sufficient experience. WBSS staff can help you determine if your child is ready for our race teams, but in general, completion of our Learn To Race program, or experience on a high school sailing team, would give sailors enough experience to participate.
Practice Schedule:
Summer Race Team Program sailors practice four afternoons per week, Monday through Thursday. Attendance at as many practices as possible is encouraged. Practices are from 3-5:30 PM daily.
Regatta Schedule:
Sailors race on Fridays throughout the summer in Twin Cities Youth Sailing (TCYS) Regattas. These events are held on Twin Cities-area bodies of water, including White Bear Lake, Minnetonka, Bde Maka Ska, and the St Croix River. Participation in these events is encouraged but not required. Regattas start at 8 AM with registration and are usually finished by 4 PM. See this summer's tentative schedule listed below.
If you have any questions about the Summer Race Team Program or if your child is ready for racing, contact your child's sailing instructor or email White Bear Sailing School at sailwbss@gmail.com.
